Thesis Statement
The oppression of the Rohingyas has been going on for a long time, and has only recently been brought into light as the mistreatment of these people was discovered. It was the religious superiority and influence of the Theravada Buddhist monks that influenced the government into creating unfair and discriminating laws; this then lead to the questioning of the origin of these people. Rohingya muslims are now a stateless people, that receive constant abuse, due to the extermination of all their civic rights and liberties. This is all because of the Theravada Buddhists leaders that encourage the “ethnic cleansing” that is going on to date.

Myanmar Today
Myanmar, a small and economically challenged nation, with a population of over 53 million strong, is heavily influenced by the leaders of the Theravada Buddhist sect. Although the economy is suffering to date, it is seen as a possible up and coming hub for international trade and manufacturing. Myanmar's geography places it in a strategic location, with a coastline along the bay of bengal. With ports this close to India, Thailand, and the middle east, Myanmar becomes a point of interest for both manufacturing and trade. China's borders do not reach the sea, which is blocked none other than Myanmar(Image 1).
Due to China's strong economy, speculations by Myanmar expert Abdallah Ddumba and the Burma Task force (an NGO that focusses on publicity of the mistreatment of Rohingyas) seem to conclude that Chinas interest with Myanmar would heavily rely on access to ports. It is already known that manufacturing in Myanmar is a multimillion dollar business that exports hundreds of millions of dollars of goods.(Image 2). Wages in Myanmar are one sixth of that in China, making it cheaper for China to manufacture goods in Myanmar( according to source).
The Rohingya live in the Rakhine (Arkan) state on the southwestern coast of myanmar, and their religion is almost entirely Islam( according to UNHCR). They live near the borders of the nation, after being forced out of their homes by the Burmese Military, and as a result tend to have low socioeconomic status due to their inability to receive education. The region in which they live, Arakan, is inhabited by a population between one and three million people that identify as Rohingya. Many Rohingya are poor farming peasants, or wage abused factory workers, whose human rights have been taken from them entirely. These people have been abused, raped, murdered, and enslaved by the Burmese military and government. Read on throughout our website to find out why this all began, what is happening today, and possible longterm solutions. (Adawy, Persecution of the Rohingya...) (Berlatsky, Genocide and persecution...) (Saha, Learning from the Rohingya)

About $300,000,000.00 of Myanmar's manufacturing goods are imported by these four countries alone. Many more countries import similar values of manufactured goods. Visit the documents page to view to official economics report from 2006-2010.
